Squarespace or a web designer: how to choose
Squarespace templates look good out of the box. The site is only as good as what you put in them.
Why people like Squarespace
Squarespace is known for polished, design-led templates, and it is popular with photographers, creatives and small shops. If you have good photography and a clear idea, it is easy to make something that looks smart.
It is a subscription service. You rent the site, so it is worth knowing what happens if you stop paying.
Where local businesses can struggle
Design-led templates assume you have strong pictures and not much to say. Trades and local services are usually the opposite: you need to say what you do, where, and how to reach you, quickly.
A beautiful template with vague text will not do much for a plumber or a clinic.
What to check before you pay
Look at the plan you need, the renewal price, and how to export your content. Check you can edit page titles and descriptions, add a map and write your service area in plain words.
Keep your domain registered in your own name.
How a designer helps
We start from your trade and write the text with you, so the page says what customers are looking for. Packages from £199 are on the packages page.
If you have the pictures and the eye, Squarespace can be a good fit. If you do not have the time, we can do it for you.
Questions to ask before you decide
- What happens to my site if I stop paying?
- What is the plan cost at renewal?
- Can I export my content?
- Does the template suit text-heavy local services, or is it built for photography?
Common questions
Is Squarespace good for SEO?
It gives you the basic controls. As with any builder, the results depend on what you write and how you set up each page, not on the platform alone.
Can I move my domain from Squarespace later?
Domains can generally be transferred between providers. Check the current transfer rules on your account before you need to.
OneSimpleSite is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any company named in this guide. Product and company names belong to their owners. Plans, prices and features change, so check each provider's own site for current details.
